FRONTLINE WORSHIP TEAM AUDITIONS

WELCOME

We’re so thankful for all that God is doing in and through our worship ministry here at Princeton Pike, and are excited to present the opportunity to partner with you to serve Jesus through the medium of music. We encourage you to read through the Worship Ministry Handbook prior to auditioning.

We’re accepting all auditions via video submissions. If you would like to audition for multiple instruments, or an instrument and vocals, you will need to submit separate videos for each.

Along with musicianship, we are looking for a stage presence that invites the congregation to worship.

Please read through the requirements below before completing the audition sign up form.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Requirements for Audition:

  1. Must attend Princeton Pike Church of God for a minimum of six month prior to auditioning.
  2. Must be committed to the Rehearsal and Service schedules.
  3. Must maintain a humble and teachable attitude.
  4. Must be willing to learn new ways of doing thing even as we follow standard practices.
  5. Must be able to receive direction/criticism, even if you don’t agree with the suggestion.
  6. Must be Trustworthy and team-minded.
  7. Must be able to sing and play with click track. (Metronome)
  8. Must own In-Ear Headphones for use with Monitor System. (Recommendations can be provide)
Vocal Guidelines Band Guidelines Dress Code Guidelines

Time Expectations:

  • We currently provide worship for services on Sundays and some Wednesday nights
  • For vocalists, our praise team is comprised of eight vocalists serving every week with two subs per section.
  • For Instrumentalists, the number of services you play per week depends on the number of qualified players on a given instrument.
  • There are also times during the year when we have extra meetings such as: revivals, worship nights, special guest services, and Easter and Christmas Productions where our services are required.
  • The time requirement for worship team members is approximately 6 hours per week when they are scheduled for the weekly services. (This time frame does not include personal practice time.)
  • Included in the time requirements:
    • Vocal Rehearsals on Wednesday nights (7:00pm-8:30pm) & Bi-Weekly on Sundays (6:00pm-8:00pm)
    • Band Rehearsals on Thursday nights (7:00pm-9:00pm)
    • Sunday Morning Services (7:30am-12:30pm – Band // 8:00am-12:30p – Vocals)

PHASES OF AUDITIONING

Phase 1 – Video Audition

  • The first phase of auditions is to submit a video recording of yourself singing or playing the required pieces using the click/track version.
  • Please start your video by telling us how much experience you have with a worship team or as a soloist.
  • Videos should be uploaded to YouTube.
  • Please provide your video link in the form below.
  • Videos from live worship are also acceptable if you are clearly heard and seen.

Phase 2 – Live Audition

  • Live Auditions will be invitation only.
  • We will email those who we would like to see audition live.
  • Live auditions are typically held on evenings.

PREPARING YOUR AUDITION

What to Prepare:

Here is what we are looking for in each audition video. Please click your instrument/vocal of choice to see links to videos and/or instructions. Please remember to submit a different video for each instrument or vocal in order to be considered.

Video Submission Instructions:

  1. We have provided Click and Loop tracks for each song above, please use these to sing/play along with in your audition video
  2. Please submit video via YouTube (iPhone/Computer quality is okay)
  3. Under privacy settings, select “UNLISTED” and title with “(Your Name, Category, PPCOG Worship Audition)
  4. Copy and paste the link to your video audition application form

VOCALIST

The worship vocalist’s primary function is to provide vocal harmony with the worship leader and other worship vocalists. They also model worship for the congregation by maintaining an attitude of worship while singing with the team.

How to audition:

  • Fill out the Audition Application at the bottom of page.
  • All auditions are submitted videos via YouTube.
  • Please demonstrate both lead and harmonies.
  • Using the songs below for male/female vocalist, submit the following 3 videos singing with the click/loop.
    1. One Fast Song singing Lead
    2. One Solo Song singing Lead
    3. Harmony song singing with Lead in track

Skill Set:

  • Able to sing on pitch.
  • Hear and sing a harmony part for a given melody.
  • Be able to reproduce a harmony part for a given song consistently.
  • Be able to control vocal elements such as volume and vibrato in order to blend with the worship leader and other vocalists.

CHOIR

The choir’s primary function is to provide community with the worship leader and other worship vocalists. They also model worship for the congregation by maintaining an attitude of worship while singing with the team.

How to audition:

  • Fill out the Audition Application at the bottom of page.
  • All auditions are submitted videos via YouTube.
  • Please demonstrate your vocals by singing acapella to any song of your choice.

KEYS

The worship keyboardist primary function is to provide sonic textures and keyboard parts for the worship team.

How to audition:

  • Fill out the Audition Application at the bottom of page.
  • All auditions are submitted videos via YouTube.
  • Using the 2 songs below, Record yourself playing with the click/loop recording.

Song Options:

  • Your Great Name – Key of Bb (Download Files)
  • Fullness – Key of C (Download Files)

Skill Set:

  • Able to hold steady time against a click track.
  • Should be comfortable learning parts by ear.
  • Know chord inversions and be able to find different chord voicing.
  • Can read simple chord charts. Reading music is desirable but not required.
  • Able to play in a variety of musical styles: contemporary stylings, gospel, rock, etc.
  • Familiar with general modern keyboard architecture, i.e. how to recall patches, find different sounds, use a modulation wheel, etc.
  • Must be familiar with MIDI and software-based synths.

ELECTRIC GUITAR

The worship electric guitarist primary function is to provide rhythmic support and sonic textures as needed by the worship leader and to play specific parts (lead lines) for songs as needed.

How to audition:

  • Fill out the Audition Application at the bottom of page.
  • All auditions are submitted videos via YouTube.
  • Using the 2 songs below, Record yourself playing with the click/loop recording.
  • Take a moment in your video to show us your pedal board.

Song Options:

  • Your Great Name – Key of Bb (Download Files)
  • Lion and the Lamb – Key of B (Download Files)

Skill Set:

  • Good knowledge of major and minor chords and basic scales. Power chords are essential!
  • Able to play competently in the upper registers of the neck (above the 5th fret).
  • Be able to control dynamics while maintaining consistent tempo. Must be able to play with a click track/metronome and hold tempo.
  • Must own their own guitar and equipment, and be able to reproduce tones consistent with modern contemporary music. (This can be done inexpensively with modern modeling amps. A big pedal board is not required!)
  • Must own an electronic tuner with bypass.
  • Instrument should be able to hold tune and be in good repair.
  • Should be comfortable learning parts by ear
  • Ability to arpeggiate chords and flat-pick very desirable.

ACOUSTIC GUITAR

The worship acoustic guitarist primary function is to provide rhythmic support as needed by the worship leader.

How to audition:

  • Fill out the Audition Application at the bottom of page.
  • All auditions are submitted videos via YouTube.
  • Using the 2 songs below, Record yourself playing with the click/loop recording.

Song Options:

  • Build My Life – Key of G (Download Files)
  • Glorious Day – Key of D (Download Files)

Skill Set:

  • Knowledge of open chords and barre chords. Working knowledge of the guitar neck.
  • Must own their own guitar with built in electronic pickup system, and an electronic tuner with bypass.
  • Control dynamics while maintaining consistent tempo. Play with a click track/metronome and hold tempo.
  • Play different strumming patterns as called for by the given song.
  • Able to transpose chords and use a capo.
  • Comfortable learning parts by ear.
  • Instrument must hold tune and be in good repair.
  • Ability to arpeggiate chords and flat-pick very desirable.

BASS

The worship bass guitarist primary function is to provide bass content and rhythmic support as needed by the worship leader and to play specific parts for songs as needed.

How to audition:

  • Fill out the Audition Application at the bottom of page.
  • All auditions are submitted videos via YouTube.
  • Using the 2 songs below, Record yourself playing with the click/loop recording.

Song Options:

  • Your Great Name – Key of Bb (Download Files)
  • Raise A Hallelujah – Key of Db (Download Files)

Skill Set:

  • Must own their own instrument. Instrument should be able to hold tune and be in good repair.
  • Should understand basic rhythmic divisions; quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets, etc.
  • Should be comfortable learning parts by ear and knowledge of basic scales would be useful.
  • Good knowledge of the neck, i.e. know the notes in the first five frets of the neck on all strings, preferably without looking.
  • Be able to control dynamics while maintaining consistent tempo. Must be able to play with a click track/metronome and hold tempo.

DRUMS

The worship drummer primary function is to provide solid rhythmic foundation for the worship team.

How to audition:

  • Using the 2 songs below, Record yourself playing with the click/loop recording.

Skill Set:

  • Able to hold steady time against a click track.
  • Must own their own sticks/mallets/brushes.
  • Comfortable learning parts by ear.
  • Play a variety of basic quarter note and eighth note rock drum patterns. Others; 2 beat country, 6/8 time signature beats, etc.
  • Able to control dynamics while maintaining consistent tempo. Must be able to play with a click track/metronome and hold tempo.
